Those who like Google Nest Cam say that they like its slick, modern design, crisp image, and better motion detection. Those who don’t like it mainly complain that it doesn’t come with a siren. Personally, I don’t care much about having a siren feature. I just want to look outside from time to time, see which neighbours mysteriously fill up our garbage container every now and then, etc.
Taking advantage of the boxing day sales, we bought four Google Nest Cameras from Home Depot, each with a good discount of 140 dollars. Once we received the package, we realised we needed a technician to install them for us. Can we ask Geek Squad for help? Their webpage says that they can help even though you don’t necessarily purchase the product from them. Calling the number got us transferred to some third-party installer company. Probably due to the busy holiday season, we left our numbers twice without getting any callback. Anyhow, we got the cams installed a couple of days later.
Have Nest Cam connection issues? Unable to connect? Unable to detect device? After reading numerous online help tips and fiddling with the cam for hours, we finally figured out how to get them set up. First, stay close to the camera for your phone to detect the camera. Once detected, the software will be downloaded and installed into the cam. If that doesn’t work, turn on and off flight mode, turn off and on Bluetooth mode, and try again. For example, when we tried to set the cam in the alley near the backyard, we thought the phone could not detect the cam because the Wi-Fi was too weak. Actually, that’s not the case. We stood right under the alley cam, tried setup, and it got connected right away. Do you need a Wi-Fi extender? We thought we needed one, but we didn’t use it.
So, all our cams are working perfectly. What’s the advantage of installing a security camera? Well, you found out things that you usually wouldn’t know. Here is one. Our app event viewer shows us that our newspaper delivery guy always goes to our alley to pee right after delivering the paper. Yeah, that’s gross. We cancelled the subscription the next day and asked for an online one instead.
