Best Portable Jump Starter

Most car battery only lasts for a few years, if you get lucky, you get five years, or you get an average of at least two years. There is always a period of uncertainty before your battery goes dead. Especially during an early winter morning, if you have a weak battery, you might find it hard to start your car. My auto mechanics once suggested me that if I turn off everything before starting the car, I could get a better chance to get it running. However, when your battery is weak, and when the temperature drops to -20 or more, you can’t expect a miracle to happen. And that’s what happened last winter, and I had to call an auto rescue towing service for help. The tow truck guy showed up with a jump starter and happily collected $80 afterwards. I began to think should we buy our jump starter?

Not sure if last winter was unusually cold or my car battery was too old, the car went dead a second time after a few weeks. This time, we took a bus and went to a nearby Canadian Tire. Inside the store, we could see that a bunch of customers already gathered around the aisle full of auto jump starters. Many people have similar problems and having a hard time to figure out which one to purchase. Everybody wants to buy one that would work for the first time. After collecting opinions for half an hour, we decided to go for the MotoMaster Eliminator.

MotoMaster Eliminator is a small piece of equipment, can this little guy help? According to the specifications, it works at an operating temperature range of -30°C to 50°C. Other features include a manual override mode, multi-mode flashlight, and USB output for charging mobile phones, tablets, and others. After having this product for two years, here are the pros and cons of MotoMaster Eliminator:

Pros:

– Very easy to use
– We used it multiple times, and it worked every time
– Lightweight and compact to carry

Cons:

– It took a long time to charge, longer than the suggested hours. It requires a complete charge to do anything well.

The model we bought is “MotoMaster Eliminator 1500A Lithium-Ion Booster Pack & Power Bank”. It’s available at Canadian Tire at $239.99. Another model, the one with 750A, is currently on sale, it was $149.99, and now it’s $112.49 in-store. If you need a gift idea for a friend who drives every day, this could make one perfect gift.
